Sports Events in Atlanta this Fall

There’s no shortage of sporting events this fall. Check out our lineup of fall sports in Atlanta and reserve your place.

Atlanta Braves

September is the last full month of the regular season for the Braves, but there’s still time to catch Ronald Acuña Jr. and the rest of the squad at Truist Park. Promotions for September include Science Education Day on Sept. 20 against the Phillies, the A.J. Minter Bobblehead night against the Cubs on Sept. 26 and the annual Los Bravos Hispanic Heritage Night on Sept. 28. Additionally, the season finale against the Nationals Oct. 1 includes a Braves mascot Blooper figure giveaway for kids. The Braves are one of the hottest tickets in all of baseball and this is the perfect time to take in the national pastime.

Atlanta Hawks

Trae Young, Dejounte Murray and Clint Capela return to the hardwood, which means another season of Atlanta Hawks basketball is upon us. While the Atlanta Hawks will always have a primary goal of making it to the playoffs and going as far as they can, the NBA has also instituted a new in-season tournament for teams to go after as well. With $500,000 in cash for each winning team member on the line, this could provide even more exciting regular season games at State Farm Arena. This upcoming season looks to be exciting, and it’s always a wise decision to take in a game at the world’s first arena to earn TRUE Platinum Certification for Zero Waste. 

Atlanta Falcons

It’s time for another season of Falcons football as Desmond Ridder, Cordarrelle Patterson and Drake London look to help bring Atlanta back to the top of football. The home schedule at Mercedes-Benz Stadium is sure to be an exciting one with teams like the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings and Washington Commanders all set to test the Falcons on Sundays in Atlanta. That’s not to mention the divisional rivalries with the likes of the Carolina Panthers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and especially with the New Orleans Saints. Even if you can’t make it to the incredible Downtown venue for some NFL Atlanta Falcons action or if you want to be with fellow fans when the Falcons are out of town, Bud Light has partnered with plenty of bars across town (such as Big Sky in Buckhead and The Nook on Piedmont Park) to provide a lively atmosphere for every football Sunday.

Atlanta United

The Five Stripes are usually the center of attention when it comes to MLS but all eyes may be on the visitors on Sept. 16 when world soccer superstar Lionel Messi will take to the pitch against Miles Robinson and Atlanta United FC. That match is part of the final five home games for United, from the matchup with regional rivals Nashville SC Aug. 26 to the home finale on Oct. 7 against Columbus Crew SC. The beautiful game is always on display when United is in action and even if you can’t join the rowdy 17s at the stadium, Atlanta United’s pub partnership program is still going strong and various bars across Atlanta are perfect spots to take in the action away from the stadium.

Atlanta Dream

The Atlanta Dream made the WNBA playoffs, and game 1 against the Dallas Wings tips off at 9:30 p.m. Sept. 15 at College Park Center in Arlington, Texas. Probable starters for Atlanta Dream are guards No. 3 Danielle Robinson and No. 15 Allisha Gray; forwards No. 10 Rhyne Howard and No. 25 Monique Billings; and center No. 32 Cheyenne Parker. Game 2 on Sept. 19 will also be played in Texas. If there is a Game 3, the Wings will travel to Atlanta for a Sept. 22 game at Gateway Center Arena.

College Football

Led by new head coach Brent Key, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets launched their season Sept. 1 in Mercedes-Benz Stadium during the Aflac Kickoff Game against the Louisville Cardinals. Tech has six games scheduled at historic Bobby Dodd Stadium at Hyundai Field this season, including three ACC games and the annual heated rivalry game against the back-to-back National Champions Georgia Bulldogs. The rivalry game also coincides with the annual Michael Isenhour Toy Drive, so make sure to bring a toy to donate if you do decide to attend one of college football’s most historic rivalries.

Head coach Shawn Elliott is entering his seventh season as the leader of the Georgia State Panthers, and they will start the season with a pair of home games under the lights at Center Parc Stadium. Georgia State opened up the season against Rhode Island for a Thursday night game on Aug. 31 and then they took on UConn on Sept. 9. With season tickets for Georgia State’s six-game home schedule starting at just $70, there isn’t a better deal for college football in Atlanta than seeing the Panthers tangle with their rivals under the Center Parc Stadium lights. 

The Maroon Tigers of Morehouse College play Albany State University at 3 p.m. on Sept. 16 in New Jersey. The Tigers don’t play at home again until the Oct. 14 Senior Day game against Miles College. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. The Clark Atlanta University Panthers also play an away game on Sept. 16 when they travel to the Georgia coast to play Savannah State University in a 6 p.m. game. The next home game for the Panthers is Sept. 30 against Lane College. Game time: 2 p.m.
